Community Update #6

Community Update #6

You know what they say, time flies when you’re having fun!

It’s been two months since the last community update, so you better believe that the Super Code Strike team’s been busy. Our community members have gotten their hands on 1.0 and we’ve been taking their feedback to heart. More features, more worlds, more options to be creative — the game’s gotten bigger and better with each passing week!

We’re proud to report that people are really digging 1.0! The team is still working on transferring your favorite features and quality-of-life improvements from the 0.61 version, but there's also a host of fresh content speeding down the pipeline. In this update, we’re focusing on the new creativity-centric toys and tweaks the team’s been hard at work on. We’ll also spend a bit of time on how you can get more involved with the 1.0 testing before the public release. There’s something for every type of player so strap in for the ride!

A Whole New Dimension

One of the most impactful additions to Super Code Strike is the long-awaited jump feature! Jumping allows you to scale one-block tall obstacles and cross large gaps. A good hacker can also utilize the Players module to set the jump power even stronger! The new jump adds some much-needed verticality to the gameplay experience and opens the door to an endless array of building and striking opportunities. Take those obbies to the next level or use it to provide shortcuts in your world — anything is possible! And when combined with the ability to customize the run and dash speeds…we’ll leave that up to your imagination.

The movement upgrades don’t stop there; introducing the Boost Block, Boost Ramp, Bounce Block, and Jump Zone! That’s three new blocks and one new zone to make traversing worlds a breeze.

While you’re running on a patch of Boost Blocks, you’ll get a massive boost of speed in whatever direction the blocks’ arrows are pointing.

Do you remember dashing up ramps? Definitely one of our favorite pastimes, but now with Boost Ramps, you can get the air time without needing to spend your precise dash. Just walk up to a ramp and you’re on your way!

Bounce Blocks? Now, these are just for fun. Jump onto some bounce blocks and you’ll be sent back up into the air. They’re a refreshing approach to movement if you ever get tired of running around.

Last but certainly not least, we have Jump Zones aka the super trampolines. Think of the bounce block but dialed up to 11, that’s what these are. Hop onto one and you’ll get some serious air.

Hacking Made Easy

We know hacking can seem a little overwhelming, especially when it comes to learning the Lua programming language as well Super Code Strike’s quirks. That’s why we’ve been constantly improving the documentation, which can be accessed in the game and in your web browsers, with all the tips, shortcuts, and applications for the code.

A bunch of new global events have been added to help hackers create what they want as quickly and efficiently as possible. Functions like ‘onPlayerJoin,’ for example, make it easy to accomplish tasks like grabbing the player’s information when they join your world or altering their movement. You can find the full list of global events here.

These are being introduced alongside other additions like improved HUD options for content like leaderboards, as well as persistent data to save player stats and progress across multiple visits to your worlds. Make sure you check out the documentation to see what’s new in the world of Super Code Strike hacking.

Beyond the code itself, expect more quality of life improvements to make your time in the Lua editor as smooth as possible. You can now zoom and pan within the editor for more precision and improved readability. We know things can get difficult on a mobile device without the proper tools to navigate the editor. The ability to copy coordinates is also live, no more memorizing numbers! Enjoy frequent auto-saves as well; you never have to worry about losing your progress again.

Power to the Players

Progress is solid on our ongoing quest to transfer all of those sweet 0.61 features and quality of life improvements to 1.0. We’re happy to announce that you can finally make multiple worlds! This has been a long-requested feature but now with more flexible hacking and assets at your disposal, you can push your worlds even further. You can also name your worlds now; we know that names are integral to personalizing your worlds. And, well, let’s face it, your creative ideas certainly beat “squid21” and whatever names we were using!  The team is still working on nailing down building-related features before we get to re-introducing character customization, but in the meantime, you can now change your name without having to redownload 0.61.

Over on the building side of things, all the saving improvements from hacking also make their way into the build interface. The save button is the go-to feature for all of our testers — the days of losing your build progress are over! You’ll also notice that we raised the energy cap to 1500 for even bigger, more complex worlds. Remember, hacking costs zero energy so that extra energy should be going straight to decor and other assets. Try spending some energy on the new blocks!

Get In on the Action!

If anything we mentioned here caught your eye then we encourage you to sign up for the beta by clicking this link! Don’t forget to join our Discord server too! There you can connect with like-minded players and participate in our weekly hangout session every Friday at 5:00 PM EST. Our Discord members will be the first to get updates for Super Code Strike and news about the future of the game.

We’ve also been partnering with local libraries and organizations to bring our brand of edutainment to those looking for a more exciting way to learn how to code. If you’re someone who’s just starting to get into coding, or you know someone who is, Super Code Strike might be the supplementary tool you need, especially right now! There’s never been a better time to try your hand at the game. The people over in the help channel of our Discord server are also ready to assist you with your building and coding needs.

What's on the Horizon?

More assets for the builders, more tools for the hackers, and more content for the strikers! We’ll continue to bring over features from 0.61 to 1.0 but most of what’s coming your way will be brand-new content. Super Code Strike has come such a long way since the beginning of 2022 and there’s no reason that you shouldn’t expect an equally large leap in content and quality by its end.

For now, make sure you sign up for playtesting and join our Discord — we’d love to have you along for the ride. The latest patch will have just been released by the time you read this, so take a peek.

And don’t forget to check back soon for the next community update!
